It's a bit hot

Actually it's more humid. There was a free outdoor ballet performance at Seoul's National Theater on Saturday so me and Snuggle Binks went to see that. After we went for a cool refreshing drink at Coffee Bean in Myeong Dong. At night all the street vendors start selling stuff. Snuggle Binks weakness is accessories. Going three blocks takes about half an hour. She stops at every little booth and checks out all the hair clips etc. She wondered why I gave ourselves 30 minutes to walk from Myeong Dong to the subway station.

I had to get money from the ATM in Myeong Dong. The ATMs here are nicely air conditioned. While I was taking out my money, this man and his pregnant wife walked in. He set up this portable chair and his pregnant wife took a seat. A look of great relief came over her face as she sat down. The husband walked out.

About an hour later we left Coffee Bean and walked by the ATM. She was still there!

I find this funny on a couple levels. 1) He carries around a portable chair. Like they've done this before. I understand when you're pregnant heat becomes torture, not to mention walking and if you want to stay married long enough to see the birth of your child, sure, lug around a portable lawn chair. 2) Taking advantage of the ATM's A/C. The question is where'd he go?

There's amazingly good pizza in Myeong Dong. Some place with a pure Korean name "Sung" or something. Nothing engrish "cheesy" like "Mr Happying the Pizza" or since it's a block away from a Starbucks a play on the name/logo "Starpizzabucks".

Coming from Windsor, home of the best pizza maybe outside of Italy, I've never really found a good pie any place on this planet. The Myeong Dong joint comes pretty close.

It seemed pretty easy. You know? Get a new laptop, take out my old laptop's 2.5" HD, plonk it into an external USB case, and get some files off of it. Not that I have a lot of files on it that I still need. I did manage to back up nearly everything before my BIOS or motherboard or whatever totally went tits up. But there are probably a few little things here and there. Like my fonts. Anyway, so I went to Yongsan, bought a USB case, got home, took out my old HD, and... crap. The case connector is IDE and my laptop HD is SCSI. Crap.

All the external cases seem to be IDE. Anyone know if you can get a small cheap SCSI external case?

I always bring ice water to call, frozen in a little plastic bottle. My kids always want to know what I've frozen. I tell them "it's soju... you kids make me drink. It's the only thing that gets me through the day." They laugh.

The other day this girl Suzy brought some of her own frozen ice water in a plastic bottle. She usually sides to my immediate left. I looked at her, pointed to her frozen water.

"Soju?"

"Yes."

I offered my own bottle of frozen "soju" in mock toast. She touched my bottle with hers and shouted "kampai!" "One shot!" I shouted back.

I hate to be the one to have to tell you, but it's all a thing of the past. I've gone back after having raved to people about the pizza and been unable to find a decent pizza to save my life. Most of the good places have shut down. The ones who are still there have new management and just aren't the same. I don't think [info]okoshun even believes me about the pizza, because of the mediocre quality of the stuff she had when I finally got an opportunity to demonstrate.

What color was it? It might have been ginseng soju.
